Wanstead Flats is a large green open space in East London bordering the areas of Forest Gate, Manor Park, Leytonstone, Aldersbrook and Wanstead. It is the most southern part of Epping Forest and is adminstered by the Corporation of London.
It is a very popular park used by the whole community for a whole range of recreational activities including walking, horse riding, picnics, football, cricket, jogging, cycling and model aeroplanes.

Forest Gate Development

Although it does not directly concern Wanstead Flats, there are some plans for a major development in Forest Gate which people in the area should be aware of.
A leaflet circulated by Obsidian, the company/ organisation involved, invites local people to an open day at Durning Hall, Earlham Grove E7 9AB Wednesday 16th November 3.00pm-8.00 pm.
In addition to regeneration proposals, the plans include a 26 storey apartment block very near Forest Gate railway station, possibly on the Durning Hall site or Coop.

The City of London have a new survey for the users of Wanstead Flats, as part of an Epping Forest Survey.

Redbridge Council are currently considering a planning application for the Temporary Police muster base on Wanstead Flats.

The campaign against the Police use of Wanstead Flats during the Olympics is ongoing. The campaign now have a website, so any further information on that campaign can be found at SaveWansteadFlats.org.uk.

Police Olympics base on Wanstead Flats?

It has recently been reported that the Police are looking to set up a temporary base on Wanstead Flats during the London Olympics in 2012.

"The proposal is to use a small area of the Flats as a temporary briefing centre for officers working on the Olympic policing operation, covering important areas such as the Olympic Park and Stadium. Our proposal does not include any permanent structures and the land would be restored to its current condition after use."

It is believed that the area in question is west of Centre road where the fair is normally situated.

Football Consultation 24 / 25 April 2010

The new date for the Football consultation has now been arranged at the Harrow Roads Changing Rooms. It will be on Saturday 24 April and Sunday 25 April between 10am - 2 pm. It is a drop in consultation rather than a meeting, with some leaflets and exhibits.

Football Consultation 27 / 28 February 2010

There will be a public and user consultation at Harrow Road on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th February 2010 organised by the Corporation of London.

The notification of the consultation stated..

"Following our recent investments at Harrow Road and with plans to actively seek funding for future investments across our site, this is a great time to provide your feedback. This is also your opportunity to share your thoughts on the operation of the sports facilities at Wanstead Flats as we look to offer the most effective service.

Cycle Path Update 231009

We are please to report that we have received a letter from the Superintendent of Epping Forest confirming his statements at the last meeting concerning the cycle path. He also states the current and future plans for the football pitches.
